Over the years, on November 10th, the Great Lakes Maritime Institute has hosted several Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Programs at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle in Detroit. As the twenty year anniversary of the sinking was approaching it was decided by GLMI to undertake a project of historical importance to the Edmund Fitzgerald.
It had been reported that a year before her sinking the 12,000 lb starboard-side bow anchor had been lost somewhere in the Detroit River. The project proposed was to search out and raise this very large and historically significant Great Lakes artifact.
The story of the FITZ and the raising of the anchor was covered live on NBC's affiliate WDIV (Channel 4 - Detroit) during prime time.
This program will be presented by Malcolm 'Mac' McAdam.
We hope to see you there next year, The Ford Seahorses.
